You do know our modern day treatment drugs were all derived from plant extracts the Egyptians discovered.

Without realizing we often experience hypnotic states within ourselves, when we meditate or get immersed in sport, when watching TV, daydreaming, performing monotonous tasks, the feeling we all get just before we drift into sleep and when we wake up, although hypnosis is not sleep.

We’ve all done it, have you ever experienced driving the car and realised that you have reached your destination, but had no knowledge of how you got there, it can be a scary experience, our unconscious mind takes over whilst we are concentrating on other things and it operates to keep us safe. Thank goodness.

When we day dream or meditate we are in a “Trance” when you really think about it, we are probably in trance half of our life’s, but it’s a way of protecting ourselves from being bombarded from modern living, you come home after a hard days work, using the computer all day, phone calls, keeping our cool when dealing with difficult situations, then there’s face book, emails, catch up phone calls, Tv, family life and sleep.

What Hypnosis Does

I am a Clinical Hypnotherapist, looking to help those of you who need and want help, and there are no magic tricks involved! Although I have heard my clients say, “That’s amazing”, at times. A relationship with YOU the client needs to be based on trust, honesty and acceptance, in a safe, non-judgemental environment.

It is estimated that we use approximately 10% of the brain, the conscious and unconscious mind each have different jobs, the conscious mind is analytical; it rationalises and makes judgements as to what is right or wrong, it decides what is possible to do and what is not possible to do. The unconscious mind is where our programmes are stored and where hypnosis can do its work.

Some of the behaviours we display are part of our programming we were taught when we were children, from parents, guardians, teachers and other external factors. Our parents are often the best hypnotists when they stated: “You will do this”. If our parents and others around us are nurturing, responsible and caring, then these programs will be positive.

However, if those around us, had a limiting approach to life and influenced negative programming or ineffective coping strategies, this will be part of our unconscious mind and may surface as problems in later life. This is where hypnosis can help with changing these unwanted habits and programs. Therapy takes the form of trying to provide the client with insights about their unconscious needs or motivation. So basically our unwanted habits and programming can effectively be changed by hypnosis.

It’s not that some people have willpower and some don’t, it’s just that some people are ready to change and others are not quite there yet!”

What does a session entail?

First and foremost, if you are coming along to see a Clinical Hypnotherapist, please do so because YOU want to, and you are ready to make those changes; don’t come if your mother, partner, spouse, your boss or another have sent you, you need to do this for yourself, you are the only person who can change YOU!

Some clients are nervous or agitated on their first visit, it’s the fear of the unknown, anytime we do something for the first time, it’s always a bit daunting, once we get over this, then we will feel more comfortable.

Your health and well being is important to me, and your behaviour will not be judged, remember you are not your behaviour. You will be treated in a genuine way, with compassion, empathy, encouragement and support. It is important that you participate in hypnotherapy, (the partnership between, therapist and client is 50%) whether it is to practice self-hypnosis or goal setting and tasking, this is a mutual agreement between therapist and the client, after all, it’s in your best interest.

We will begin the session, by me asking some questions to gain an understanding of you and your problems, if you have a few issues we will deal with them one at a time, these question will be gentle but direct and it’s up to you what you wish to discuss at this stage.

All content of a therapy session will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. We will mutually decide on an individually tailored intervention/treatment, with agreed tasks and goals, at this stage we will discuss any questions or misconception about hypnotherapy.

Rapport between You the client and Me the hypnotherapist is crucial if for any reason, I am not the right therapist for you, I have a duty of care, to assist you in finding someone else, more suited to you, there are no ego’s here, we are an ethical group, us Clinical Hypnotherapists.

If it is appropriate I will give you a self-hypnosis CD to get used to the sound of my voice, this prepares you for the next session,(this is at the discretion of the hypnotherapist) and you will also be given some tasks to carry out, remember to be realistic, some people expect the flick of a switch and all their issue’s will disappear, it takes the relevant amount of time, you need for changes to take place.

Let’s look at some misconceptions . . .

Will I be under your spell? Will you make me do whatever?
Absolutely not, you are your own person, you make your own decisions in life and have a strong will, and if someone says something to you in life and during hypnosis, if it does not sit well with you, you will disregard it!

Fear of Not Being Revived
Some clients may wrongly fear that once hypnotised, they may not come out the trance state. You are the one in charge. At any time in the process, you can stop of your own free will.

Will I divulge my secrets to you?
No, you only discuss what you want to discuss, and once we have formed a working relationship it’s up to you what you want to tell me.

What if I can’t be hypnotised?
Most People can be hypnotised, it may take some people time to relax and trust the hypnotherapist, but rest assured we are an ethical bunch and won’t fast track hypnosis until you are ready, perhaps for the first couple of sessions, you just want to talk, it may be the first time, you have undertaken any type of therapy and the unknown is always a bit daunting, but hypnotherapy is gentle and relaxing and we will mutually agree on what’s right for you. Remember you are the one in charge.

Is Hypnosis For Everyone
It’s not for people who suffer from Bi polar or any type of psychotic behaviour, it is beneficial for those with depression, anxiety & stress, as hypnotherapy deals with the associated issues, if you are attending a doctor for an illness, it’s always beneficial to check with your GP first, we can discuss this at the first session.

How many sessions will I need to attend?
Again it’s entirely up to you, you will know when you feel better within yourself, and I won’t keep you any longer than need be, but ask yourself this question, if you have suffered from fear/phobia/issues, most of your life, do YOU, think that one session is enough to change your unwanted behaviour? Although sometimes with smoking one may be enough. We are looking for a lasting change.

Cost factor
It’s a lot of money to part with “just for therapy”, are YOU, not worth it? We tend to spend a fortune on a trip to the hairdressers, a night out which isn’t cheap, gym/golf memberships, new clothes/cosmetics, alcohol and cigarettes. How often on a night out or social gathering, you’ve got your new hairdo, new outfit, spray tan, etc, and STILL you don’t feel good, it’s because we need to fix the inside before we feel good on the Outside. And remember as a therapist, I want to help you get better, help you feel whole again.
Hypnotherapy is not magic but it does require “YOU”, to be committed to change, and prepared to make these changes a reality. There are no guarantees of success, hypnotherapy helps people to make changes in their behaviour and these are not forced or coerced.
